Preamble

We are a family of three; Andrew, Jodie and Jessica (aged 18) from Tasmania, Australia who are currently serving in Douala, Cameroon, Central Africa on the M/V Africa Mercy, the largest non-governmental hospital ship in the world, through Mercy Ships International. God has called us on a journey that has been many years in the making. For this season we call Africa home, as we seek to bring hope and healing to the poorest of the poor.

Ship Sisters

Getting the kids off to school, holding them in the middle of the night when they are sick, returning library books, helping with homework, watching performances, taking them to the dentist, making sure they eat their veggies, parent/teacher interviews, enjoying takeaway together, washing their clothes.....

Yep we are a bunch of ordinary mum's from nine different nations, living an extraordinary life, raising our kids in a not so regular environment, on a hospital ship in Central and West Africa. Living, working and playing, we do all the things that regular mums do with their kids in the day to day but we toss in a few extras like taking them to visit patients in hospital who suffer from conditions unknown in the West, going to the Grande Marche with them to haggle in a local language, taking them to an island in a canoe, eating new and  strange foods together, watching them run and climb on deck eight, dodging the cranes, cars and containers, sailing together and pointing out sea life and sunsets, playing sock golf, taking them to country briefings, making sure they take their malaria meds, worrying about various types of African worms, checking their French vocab and nurturing them thought the most painful of goodbyes.

I love doing life with these ladies.
